Captain's Log, Stardate 7
The first image of the tutorial I am currently working on (finishing up) Basic game functionality is really starting to take shape and I do think I will continue with this project during the summer, maybe get it published, who knows.
Movement within the game is completed (for the most part) although it is still basic, and will take just a small bit more work.
Selecting one tank / infantry at a time was a hard time to get past, but that problem has now be solved.

Captain's log, Stardate 6
Very happy today with how the project is going. I've finally (and I mean FINALLY!) sorted out a way so that only one of my tanks / infantry can be highlighted at any given time, as well as sorted out some basic movement. Best of all, my tanks / infantry no longer collide with one another, as in, they no longer draw over one another, which was a big problem in the project, but that seems to have been sorted now. Pictures will come soon. More work to be done on the project tomorrow.

Captain's log, Stardate 3
A bit more progress was made on my game today, I now have it so that when you click on a tank or infantry, the tank or infantry will light up, along with an area around it. The around around it will be for moving purposes and attack and such, but more on that later. The touch function in XNA took a bit of time to get used to, but really am getting the hang of it now.
Next thing to work on is the ability to move (I have a prototype move function at the moment, but it needs a bit of debugging) so hopefully I can have my tanks and infantry moving by sometime tomorrow.
I will upload pictures to the blog later (probably tomorrow)

Captain's Log Stardate 5
BREAKTHROUGH!
After much searching online, and a long time getting annoyed that some of my code wasn't working (and wondering if the mouse input works on the emulator for windows phone) I have finally found some sample code online to help me with my touch input:
foreach (TouchLocation location in TouchPanel.GetState())
{
Rectangle hitbox = new Rectangle(200, 200, 50, 50);
if (hitbox.Contains((int)location.Position.X, (int)location.Position.Y))
{
t1.Highlight = true;
}
}
THIS!.... took me a long time to find, but means I can move on now and try get my game finished!

Captain's log, Stardate 4
Made some progress today with my game, realised I couldn't go what I wanted to do with just one map, so now my game will have a normal map, and a layered (invisible) map over that, and each map will take care of different things, eg, the position of my army, and the other map, the value of each infantry/tank in the 2D array..... kind of confusing and hard to explain, anyway, PROGRESS!

Captain's log, Stardate 1
Finally cam up with an idea for my assignment, an XNA windows phone game which I'm going to try to knock over onto Android when it's finished by using MonoDevelop.
The main idea of the game is a turn-based game which puts the user against the machine in a battle to take over a chessboard style map. The user and the A.I. of the game will each be in control of infantry and tanks, and the plan is to have a No man's land between the two sides which will be the target to take control of.
